City funded grant programs
Everyone wins when houses are well maintained, beautiful and energy efficient! These programs and grants are what make Merriam “Just Right”.
residential exterior home Improvement grant
The City will provide up to 30% reimbursement up to $3,000 for anything dealing with the exterior of your home such as windows, doors, siding, roof, driveway, and landscaping. We allocated $120,000 to the exterior program this year and it was distributed on a first-come basis. These grants are important to keep property values from declining.
residential sustainability grant
The City will provide up to 30% reimbursement up to $3,000 for anything that makes your home more energy efficient or sustainable, such as energy efficient windows and doors, insulation, solar power, wind power, high efficiency HVAC or geothermal heating and cooling.
neighborhood island grant
Citizens can become the designer and caregiver of a street island for one year. We have nineteen islands in our City. Many of these islands have fallen into disrepair. The City will reimburse up to $500 each year for the care and upkeep of that island. Working together, we keep Merriam beautiful!
residential city property tax + franchise fee rebate
Income qualified residents may receive a rebate of the City tax portion of your property taxes as well as utility franchise fees. Merriam receives approximately 25% of your property taxes and it could come back to you.
neighborhood block party grant
This grant will reimburse residents up to $300 for food, drink, entertainment and other items necessary to throw a party for your neighborhood. There is no better way to get to know your neighbors than breaking bread with them.
Contain the Rain
The Contain the Rain Program supports residents who want to reduce rain and snow runoff. Planting native plants and trees reduces the amount of stormwater going into storm drains. We partnered with the County to give residents up to $2,225 to help offset material and labor costs.
compost bin rebate
Composting enriches soil, helps to retain moisture and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. When food scraps go to the landfill, they release methane as they slowly decompose. Households that attend a city approved workshop and installs a compost bin can receive a rebate of up to $150 for the purchase of materials to construct and install a compost bin.
residential tree grant
The City partnered with Heartland Tree Alliance and Bridging the Gap to plant up to 160 new trees throughout the City in 2025! Trees may now be planted in the front or back yard.
